Get RAIDed! SkyHawk Health Management Includes SkyHawk RAID RapidRebuild for Video Security Systems

As you know, the benefits of purpose-built surveillance hard drives are compelling.

Compared to standard 3.5-inch hard drives for desktop PCs, SkyHawk surveillance-optimized hard drives deliver superior performance and reliability — with 3 times the workload rating. Ideal for rigorous surveillance environments and higher camera counts.

But wait—it gets better…

How to prevent, intervene and recover from hard drive failure

As you may know, SkyHawk Health Management (SHM) is our drive monitoring software designed for prevention, intervention, and recovery. It’s currently available on many advanced video surveillance security systems — ask your preferred system builders for SHM.

SHM helps users manage the health of their system’s hard drives. It analyzes drive parameters and uses proprietary algorithms to determine any issues. With information on operating and environmental conditions, SHM recommends preventive measures and possible interventions depending on current drive health. And it provides access to data recovery services in the event that a catastrophic event causes drive damage. It’s a key difference that only Seagate provides.

(Meanwhile, Seagate also supports IronWolf Health Management for our NAS-optimized IronWolf drives, and continues to work with ecosystem partners like Synology and QNAP to ensure our products and services fit your use-case.)

Even better… make your RAID more foolproof than ever

Security IT architects choose RAID storage for their surveillance data to ensure greater protection.

What happens when drive failures occur? Usually, RAID rebuilds are lengthy — and access to data is unpredictable. If the data is time-critical, this lengthy RAID recovery can significantly impact the business operations.

SkyHawk RAID RapidRebuild is a new feature — it’s included as part of SHM.

This exclusive Seagate technology provides a partial-failure copy feature, which helps the host rapidly extract the maximum amount of data that is still intact from a failed drive, before beginning a RAID recovery.

This significantly reduces the time needed to perform volume rebuilds. It rebuilds only the failed striped data, then copies over the rest of the unaffected striped data to a spare hard drive.

Simply put, the more data that can be directly extracted from a failed drive, the less data must be recovered during a time-consuming and error-prone traditional RAID recovery.

As a result, SHM’s SkyHawk RAID RapidRebuild can make your RAID rebuilds up to 3x faster.
