No matter where you want to take your organization, get there with Windows Server 2016—bringing the innovation behind the world’s largest cloud datacenter to yours.
Added Layers of Security
Enhance security and reduce risk with multiple layers of built-in protection.
New Deployment Options
Increase availability and reduce resource usage with the lightweight Nano Server.
Develop and manage with agility thanks to Windows Server and Hyper-V containers.
Security Built-in at the Start
Windows Server 2016 includes major security innovations that can help protect privileged identity, make it harder for attackers to breach your servers, and detect attacks so that you can respond faster. This is powerful technology, and all that’s missing is guidance on how to best deploy and use Windows Server 2016 to protect your server workloads.
More Powerful. More Reliable.
Developed as a business server version of Windows 10, Microsoft Windows Server 2016 will power small businesses all the way up to giant enterprises. A nano-server, improved remote performance and stability, the latest version of PowerShell and a Linux boot option are just some of the ways this OS is more powerful and more reliable than its predecessors.
Get Cloud Ready
With the 2016 wave of hybrid datacenter solutions, we're bringing cloud-inspired technologies to the traditional datacenter. New and enhanced features can help your customers make the most of their existing investments and datacenter today while growing and innovating their business with the latest cloud technologies.
Strengthen Your Security
Help prevent malicious attacks and detect suspicious activity where it matters: your operating system and workloads. Rely on security features built into Windows Server 2016 to control privileged access, protect virtual machines, and harden the platform against emerging threats.
Bring flexibility and control to your datacenter while lowering costs with software-defined compute, storage, and networking. Run your datacenter with an automated and resilient operating system, and access many of the same cloud-efficient features found in Microsoft Azure datacenters.
Securely deploy and run your existing applications on Windows Server 2016 to transform them into new cloud-native models. Help developers to innovate and create on-premises and cloud applications using the latest technology—containers, microservices, and Nano Server.
Windows Server 2016 Newest Features
Windows Server 2016 includes several important changes to the core operating system and many new features in an effort to double down on the security of Microsoft's products, as well as the data being used by endpoints. New and upgraded features include the following.
Data Deduplication supports volume sizes up to 64 TB and supports individual file sizes up to 1TB.
Azure Backup replaces your existing on-premises or off-site backup solution with a cloud-based solution that is reliable, secure, and cost-competitive.
When using Windows Storage Server 2016, the Work Folders service immediately notifies Windows 10 clients and the file changes are synced immediately.
Resilient File System (ReFS) enables VHDX files hosted on ReFS volumes to enjoy very significant performance improvements during provisioning and checkpoint merges.
You can now use storage quality of service (QoS) to centrally monitor end-to-end storage performance and create policies using Hyper-V in Windows Storage Server 2016.
Client connections to the Active Directory Domain Services default SYSVOL and NETLOGON shares on domain controllers now require SMB signing and mutual authentication.
Windows PowerShell 5.1 includes significant new features, including support for developing with classes and new security features that extends its use, improve its usability, and allow you to control and manage Windows-based environments.
Windows Server 2016 enables the use of persistent memory devices in the form of NVDIMM-N. NVDIMMs provide a persistent storage medium with near-DRAM speeds and reside on the memory bus, significantly reducing I/O latencies.
Physical and virtual machines benefit from greater time accuracy due to improvements in the Win32 Time and Hyper-V Time Synchronization Services.
Just Enough Administration (JEA) in Windows Server 2016 is security technology that enables delegated administration for anything that can be managed with Windows PowerShell.
